Grace was unassuming and kind …

Dear Jerry,

Here are a few notes about Grace.  I hope I am not too late.  You are doing a wonderful thing in her memory.  The service in her honor was also wonderful, I loved being there and celebrating her life with you and others. I am so happy to have met her children.  Grace was so many things to so many people, but we had each seen only part of her.  You put it all together and I am lucky to have been a part of her life.

Grace was entirely unique. She rented a room at my mom’s house during school in Sacramento.  Grace was unassuming and kind.  For many years I did not know what a brilliant person she was.  She was never arrogant, nor did she talk highly about her accomplishment when we would visit.  She had a great memory and would converse about my life and family and thoughts; so thoughtful she was.  She always talked about her children with pride.

Grace (and you, Jerry) thoughtfully visited mom, Ruth Reed, over the years as she moved from her house to assisted living facilities.  Thank you.

I love the lesson from Grace: you can accomplish great things and still relate to others as if we are all the same.

With love and fond memories,

Nancy in Fair Oaks
